With school starting again in September is your child ready to start full-time education again?
Research has shown that private tuition during summer is not only beneficial for students but is actually essential to prevent learning loss, keep your child engaged and prevent lower grades. This applies for ALL students, whether they are excelling, coasting by or not doing so well. More specifically, it has been found that children can lose up to 30% of their maths, English and reading skills over the summer break.
"Is this really such a bad thing, can't I just make my child do extra work at the start of term or make them have private tuition once term has started?" Waiting until the start of term for your child to start tuition is a very risky move and this applies for students at all levels. With many entrance exams being in November it seems like a no-brainer to secure those private tuition sessions during summer to have them ready for the end of the year. Even those taking entrance exams in January and June should utilise the spare time they have during summer to get them to grips with the topics of entrance exams which aren't always taught in school (non-verbal and verbal reasoning).
The same applies for GCSE and A-Level (or equivalent) students. With both qualifications being sat in one sitting - a change from the modular to linear structure between 2015 and 2018 - its even more important that students keep their learning going to prevent learning loss and retain their subject knowledge. Furthermore, while contentious but generally agreed, both qualifications are getting HARDER for students. Embedding a private tuition arrangement into your child's summer will help them to offset the increased difficulty in GCSEs and A-Levels by keeping their brain engaged as they overcome the challenges they face in specific subject areas.
So, to conclude, summer should be a time for your child to relax but also to keep a light study schedule to prepare them for the winter term. Private tuition will allow your child to maintain their educational progress through an experienced professional meaning - you won't have to worry about setting relevant work or making a study schedule.
